Table theatre has a long tradition dating back to the late Romantic salons and the living rooms of the Biedermeier era: in small gatherings, people would perform for one another, for entertainment, the sort of productions that were otherwise only to be seen on the grand opera and theatre stages. ‘Der Freischütz for Young and Old’ promises just such a unique, intimate and romantic experience, for it is not only the opera – presented by two actors in the melodious mini-theatre – that is romantic this afternoon, but also the setting in which the audience gathers round a table: The venue for the performance is the Carl Maria von Weber Museum in Hosterwitz, the composer’s former summer residence, the 200th anniversary of whose death we will commemorate in 2026. And perhaps the events surrounding Max, Agathe, Kaspar and Samiel – the trial shot and the magic bullets – will even take place on the very table where Weber once composed his *Freischütz*? Let yourself be enchanted by a traditional form of theatre full of charm!
